iphone advertiser pulls online casino ad

Five days ago I wrote about the illegal ads for the All Slots Casino, which were being displayed on my iPhone while I was playing ad-supported Solitaire.

After I wrote that article, I filed a complaint with ACMA. I also looked up the company behind the app, MobilityWare, and contacted them to let them know what kind of ads their app was displaying. That article prompted a follow-up story on AM (on the ABC) which aired this morning.

Well, credit where credit’s due. MobilityWare did what many companies refuse to do; they acted. The All Slots Casino ad has now been pulled and will not be shown again, at least on any of their apps.

Here is the email correspondence that took place between myself and MobilityWare. And well done to a company that actually pays attention to what it’s customers are saying.

Good morning,

Yesterday while playing ad-supported Solitaire on my iPhone, I was shown an ad for All Slots Casino. Clicking on the ad took me to a secondary ad from where I could immediately start playing.

The problem is that All Slots Casino is a real-money online casino. Advertising or providing such services in Australia is illegal. And Solitaire is a 4+ game, meaning it is appropriate for all ages.

I have written up my experience on my blog, and lodged a formal complaint with ACMA. I felt it only right that I should inform you as well.

Greetings Tom,

Thanks for your email and bringing this to our attention.

This is not up to our standards and we will remove it if we can identify the Ad network that is displaying it. If you happen to see it again, after you dismiss the Ad, immediately go into Settings, Email customer Support and ad a note that you saw the All Slots Casino Ad again. In the body of the information you send us will be the Ad network that is displaying it. Send the email and we will take it from there. It has to be a regional Ad or only showing in your country, as we have not see this here.

Thanks again and if there are any questions please let me know.

Regards,

Scott

Hi Tom,

Just a follow up as I received an email from the Ad company a short time ago, that runs these Ads. They reported that the slots Ad was pulled and we are much appreciative that you reported this to us.

If you see them in the future please let us know again and we will make contact with the Ad Company again. In the future when you send us an email and you see this Ad, go to Email customer support in Settings, right after the ad shows and the information that is in the body of the Email Customer support screen will tell us the Ad Company. Screen shots were very helpful as well.

Thanks again and have a great day.

Good on you Tom, it’s a shame they don’t do more to stop it from getting too much out of hand. I came across this and one could be forgiven for thinking that it was an Australian site
